In
1947 a member of PWE, David Garnett, was asked to write the
Official History of PWE. Garnett gave a very candid account of
life at Woburn, so much so the History was never officially
published and buried in the archives. Later a limited number of
copies were made by the Information Research Department of the "Chronique
scandaleuse" but purely for Official Eyes Only.
In 2001, the History was finally released to
the public at the Public Record Office. I was in the slow
process of Xeroxing and re-typing the text. However I have been
beaten to it by St.
Ermin's Press. The book is now available, titled "The
Secret History of PWE - The Political Warfare Executive
1939-45" by David Garnett with an introduction by Andrew
Roberts". ISBN 1 903608 08 2. It's nearly 500 pages long,
with a few photos added. Price is £25 but well worth the
investment, available from all good book shops, as they say. You
won't be disappointed!

I've
finally returned from my world travels so can make some long
awaited updates to the site. First off some new Operation
Allied Force leaflets dropped over Serbia and Kosovo in 1999
have been added to the Aerial Propaganda Database. More
additions coming very soon! |
